Power Surges
Power Surge Protection
What is a power surge: A spike in the power supply to your home.
In the past we have experienced many power surges in our area. Our area is known for its severe weather and during these storms, it is possible that your home may be struck by lightning, or something as simple as the power coming back on after it has been out can cause a power surge.
There are many items in your home that can be damaged and/or affected by a power surge. E. g. Computers, TVs, Radios, Microwaves and other appliances, along with your GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). In order to protect your home and its contents from power surges you can install a power surge protector at your electrical panel. This will help protect your entire home.
I myself have experienced a power surge and it damaged all of our GFCI, pool pump and computers along with our surge protector bars. This experience and the cost to repair/replace the equipment is what has lead me to make my decision to have a Power Surge Protector installed at my electrical panel, for a cost far less than the repair bill.
The cost of protecting your home this way may pay you back with just one power surge. Just one power surge bar may cost you 50 to 80 dollars, and you only protect the units plugged into the bar. I know you have more to protect than this.
With the electronics changing in most new appliances you cannot afford not to protect them. Power surge bars will not protect your washer, dryer, dishwasher or stove along with other hard-wired units, like smoke detectors.
